“We didn’t notice it right away. We couldn’t feel it. We did not sense at first the extra time, bulging from the smooth edge of each day, like a tumor blooming beneath skin.”
The Age of Miracles, Karen Thompson Walker
The Midnight Book Club is a place for readers, writers and book reviewers. It’s where I come to be creative, to write the things that are important to me, and to talk about the books I have read and loved and sometimes not so loved. The line above is one that I often remember and consider when reading the works of others. It is what caused me to take the book to the front of the store, dig into my wallet and pull out my credit card. When contemplating what is ‘good writing’ this is one of the lines that I remember. It is the way I think about my own writing—will anyone remember a line I have written, the way I always remember this one.
Thank you for visiting and sharing in my love of great writing.
Midnight Book Club reviews include digital galley proofs of books scheduled for publication. As a NetGalley professional reader, the Midnight Book Club provides evaluations of upcoming releases from publishing companies. All reviews are uncompensated and reflect honest assessments of these works.
